Local nonprofit to host rally in partnership with GEHA to support team’s quest for a national pro football title

Kansas City, Mo. (Jan. 23, 2019) – GEHA, Inc. (Government Employees Health Association) is partnering with Veterans Community Project (VCP) to host a Kansas City Chiefs championship rally on Jan. 26 from 1-5 p.m. for the residents of VCP Village. More than 40 military veterans, VCP staff and guests from the Chiefs will celebrate the team’s berth in professional football’s big game.

VCP Village, a community of 49 tiny homes for veterans experiencing homelessness, will transform into Arrowhead Stadium with tailgate and stadium food, including authentic barbeque courtesy of the Kansas City Barbeque Society. The rally will feature appearances from K.C. Wolf, cheerleaders and former Chiefs players Art Still, Tony Reed and Dave Lindstrom. Veterans can also tune into Sunday’s pro football all-star game. Together with volunteers from GEHA, attendees will create their place in Chiefs Kingdom and kick off the celebration of championship game week.

“GEHA is proud to give deserving veterans a chance to celebrate our Kansas City Chiefs in their quest to win a pro football championship,” said Darren Taylor, CEO, GEHA. “Hosting this championship rally is a meaningful way to give back to an organization we believe in. Joining forces with the Kansas City Chiefs and VCP provides an incredible opportunity for us to make a positive difference in our community.”

GEHA employees demonstrated their support of VCP as part of the Fall Employee Giving Campaign. The donations from employees will be matched by GEHA for a total contribution of $60,000. GEHA will present its donation check to a VCP representative before kick-off at VCP Village. As one of the largest national medical and dental plans serving federal employees, GEHA and its employees are committed to giving back to veterans.

VCP was founded in 2015 by a group of combat veterans in Kansas City and is dedicated to ending veteran homelessness nationwide. VCP offers a number of high-quality, strategic services that help veterans meet the challenges of day-to-day living, resolve immediate crises and move towards permanent stability. Built by Veterans for Veterans, VCP is specifically designed to recreate the network of support last offered to them in the service.
