GEHA signs CEO Action Pledge, advancing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion

GEHA | June 6, 2022

Signing reinforces the company's focus on an overarching directive to champion a trusting workplace.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (June 6, 2022) — GEHA (Government Employees Health Association, Inc., pronounced G.E.H.A.) today announced it has signed the CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion Pledge, which furthers its commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. Art Nizza, GEHA President and CEO, spearheads the initiative on behalf of GEHA and joins over 2,200 chief executive officers in the effort to help create more inclusive and equitable workplaces.

CEO Action for Diversity & Inclusion was founded on a shared belief that diversity, equity and inclusion is a societal issue, not a competitive one, and that collaboration and bold action from the business community — especially CEOs — is vital to driving change at scale. The coalition convenes business leaders and provides a variety of tools and resources to support leaders in taking action and driving progress to help cultivate a trusting workplace environment for all employees, current and future.

"We have a responsibility as a company to support our employees and our communities to build a more inclusive future by alleviating biases and strengthening our commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. In doing so, we must cultivate a trusting workplace built on complex and sometimes difficult conversations," Nizza said. "Signing the pledge is essential to evolving our workplace, workforce, marketplace and community."

By signing on to this commitment, GEHA is pledging to take further action to cultivate a workplace where diverse perspectives and experiences are welcomed and respected and where employees feel encouraged to discuss diversity, equity and inclusion through candid conversations. Nizza and members of the executive team will be the driving force for accountability for GEHA by actively participating in company-wide initiatives.

In signing the pledge, GEHA reinforces its commitment to diversifying its culture, including through programs such as:

  • Cultivating a Trusting Workplace: GEHA will continue to build a trusting workplace through a series of monthly micro-learning discussion series, as well as establishing Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) to allow employees an established way to promote diversity, equity and inclusion.
  • Addressing Unconscious Bias: GEHA addresses unconscious bias by hosting a 4-hour, live, unconscious bias course for its leadership. A course that is being expanded to all team members, helping to increase awareness of the issue and adjustment in mentality when approaching potential biases.
  • Strengthening Its DE&I Maturity Model: GEHA launched its four-pillar diversity, equity and inclusion strategy centered around evolving goals for its workforce, workplace, community and marketplace. This strategy focuses on changing perspectives and systems to foster a more inclusive culture and align outcomes with intentions.
