Don't guess, call the Health Advice Line
GEHA | June 10, 2021
We’ve all been there. There’s an urgent medical situation and the doctor’s office closed hours ago. Will an urgent care clinic be able to handle your situation or should you go straight to the emergency room?
As a GEHA medical member, you don’t have to guess. You have 24/7 access to a registered nurse by calling the Health Advice Line. Simply call 888.257.4342 to talk with a nurse at any time. Please have your member ID number available when you call.
Health Advice Line nurses can help evaluate symptoms and determine an appropriate method of treatment, which may include home-based remedies, referral to an urgent care facility or walk-in clinic, or accessing our telemedicine service to speak with a physician.
GEHA medical members also have access to telehealth through MDLIVE. Consultations with a board-certified doctor is available 24/7 by phone, secure video or the MDLIVE app. Licensed behavioral health therapists are also available by appointment via secure video, including follow-up visits after inpatient hospitalization.
Average wait time is less than 10 minutes to see a state-licensed, board-certified physician averaging 15 years of practice experience. Your covered dependents are also eligible. Pediatricians are available 24/7 to serve your youngest family members.
MDLIVE is designed to handle non-emergency medical conditions (including dermatology) and behavioral health issues and can often substitute for a doctor’s office visit. Telemedicine is not intended to replace your primary care doctor or to be used in life-threatening emergencies. Find more information or activate your account.
Going to the emergency room in non-emergency circumstances is often the most expensive way to receive health treatment. Getting the right information ahead of time can save you both time and money. Even better, all GEHA medical plan members can earn $50 to use on qualified medical expenses when they complete their first MDLIVE telehealth visit of the year. Learn how to earn rewards for your healthy behavior. (HDHP members must meet their deductible before rewards can be used.)
