Our commitment is to your communities
Impact that goes beyond benefits.
As a nonprofit association, G.E.H.A is dedicated to putting our members and their communities first. Our employees are proud to invest time, energy and resources to support nonprofit community-based organizations. Through our G.E.H.A Gives program in grantmaking, employee volunteerism and in-kind giving, we continue to positively impact communities where federal employees and military retirees work, live and play. These priority areas and examples reflect just part of our community investment efforts.
Military veterans
The experiences of those who serve and their caretakers are unique. G.E.H.A respects them through nonprofit support for veterans and service people, along with honoring those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice. Examples include national sponsorships for:
- Carry the Load Memorial May multi-bus nationwide tour and its annual 100K Meter Challenge, which kicks off each Veterans Day.
- Elizabeth Dole Foundation’s work in providing specialized services for the caregivers of military veterans.
- Folds of Honor scholarships and premium experiences for hundreds of their Gold Star family members.
- Wreaths Across America — each year, tribute is bestowed at National Cemeteries nationwide for the heroism and sacrifice of veterans by working with Wreaths Across America to commemorate their service.

Learn to Swim Program
The G.E.H.A Learn to Swim Program is nationwide and addresses a tragic health disparity that reaches communities far and wide: drowning rates for young people. This is the leading cause of death for children ages 1–4 and the second-leading cause for unintentional injury death for youth ages 5–15. Reaching nearly 20 high-density federal employee markets (and growing) and 5,000+ students, G.E.H.A works with local nonprofits to provide no cost swimming and aquatic safety lessons. Students also receive a free swim towel, waterproof sack pack and a new swimsuit, as needed.
