David Hakanson is President and CEO of Government Employees Health Association, Inc. (G.E.H.A). As a transformational healthcare executive with more than two decades of leadership experience, David is focused on honoring G.E.H.A's nearly 90-year legacy of service while positioning the organization to meet the evolving needs of members nationwide. Under David's leadership, G.E.H.A continues its mission of serving federal employees, retirees and their families with affordable, high-quality health and dental benefits.

David's leadership is grounded in operational discipline, data-driven decision-making and a relentless focus on the member experience. At G.E.H.A, he has guided a multiyear transformation to modernize core platforms, strengthen operational performance and build a secure, member-focused organization ready to serve generations to come. Prior to joining G.E.H.A as Chief Transformation Officer in 2022, David served as Vice President and Chief Information Officer at Southern Illinois Healthcare, where he led digital transformation initiatives including an AI-powered case management system, an enterprise telehealth platform and remote patient monitoring — improving care access, reducing costs and elevating the end-user experience.

He holds a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of Missouri–Columbia and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Missouri–Kansas City.
