The right care at the right time

Call a doctor? Visit a MinuteClinic? Go to urgent care?
With so many health care choices, it can be difficult to know where to go to get the most appropriate care. The following general guidelines can give you a better idea of your best options.
- Health advice line
The 24-hour Health Advice Line connects you to nurses who can help evaluate symptoms and determine an appropriate method of treatment. Call 888.257.4342 or from outside the United States, call collect at 709.835.8243. There is no additional cost to you.
- Online doctor visits
MDLIVE provides round-the-clock access to doctor visits by phone or video. This option is best to treat non-emergency conditions such as UTI, pink eye and more. Activate your MDLIVE account or call 888.912.1183. There is no additional cost to you.
- Primary care provider
It’s best to see your primary care physician for non-emergency care and routine physicals. If you don't have a health care provider, GEHA's Find Care tool can help you find a physician.
This option offers convenient access for treatment of minor medical problems such as UTI, pink eye or ear pain. Find care near you.
- Urgent care
These clinics provide care for the same conditions as a minute clinic but can also treat bronchitis, allergies, asthma, fractures, sprains, cuts and burn. Find care near you.
- Emergency room
Go to the emergency room immediately if you experience serious symptoms such as fainting, chest pain, difficulty breathing, slurred speech, weakness on one side or a fever with a rash. Find care near you.
