GEHA will cover at-home over-the-counter COVID-19 tests starting January 15

Starting Saturday, January 15, the Biden-Harris Administration is requiring all private health plan insurers to cover the cost of up to eight at-home COVID-19 tests per month. GEHA will be offering this program to all GEHA medical plan members to improve access to easy-to-use, at-home COVID-19 tests at no cost after reimbursement.
How is GEHA covering the at-home COVID-19 tests?
GEHA will cover eight at-home tests per month for each member, regardless of how many tests are purchased at a time. After you have purchased an at-home COVID-19 test from any pharmacy, store or online retailer, you will need to save your receipt and submit a claim to GEHA for reimbursement. Because GEHA has not set up a network of preferred stores, pharmacies and online retailers at which you can obtain a test with no out-of- pocket expense, you will be reimbursed the amount of the cost of the test. For example, if you buy a two-pack of tests for $34, GEHA will reimburse $34.
GEHA will continue to cover COVID-19 tests if they are ordered by a physician, non-physician practitioner, pharmacist or other authorized health care professional. At-home over-the-counter COVID-19 tests are covered when purchased on or after January 15, 2022.
How do you receive a COVID-19 at-home test reimbursement?
Members can request reimbursement for tests that were purchased on or after January 15, 2022, by submitting a claim form with the receipt using the GEHA Medical Claim Form. GEHA will also have an online claim form posted within the Member Portal to submit for reimbursement. Please allow up to 30 days for the at-home COVID-19 test to be reimbursed.
