Civic awards highlight GEHA’s commitment to the community, employees and members.

LEE'S SUMMIT, Mo. (August 1, 2022) — GEHA (Government Employees Health Association, Inc., pronounced G.E.H.A.) was honored to receive awards from Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce, Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce and the Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce for the company's continued dedication to the health and wellness of its members and the communities where members live. All three organizations selected GEHA as a local business showcasing leadership, excellence and community contribution.

The Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce recognized GEHA as the 2022 Nonprofit Champion of Diversity. The Champion of Diversity Award annually recognizes a regional business and nonprofit that has made an impactful commitment to embrace diversity, equity and inclusion in their workplace and community, diversity in supplier partnerships and inclusive organizational practices.

The Lee’s Summit Chamber of Commerce celebrates local business excellence through the Truly the Best Business of the Year awards. Dozens of applications were considered in March of 2022 before three finalists were selected for site visits and an extensive interview process. GEHA was awarded the Business of the Year Award in the 20+ Employees category for their exemplification of good practices, strong employee relations and contributions to the community.

The Mid-America LGBT Chamber of Commerce honored GEHA as one of six Kansas City organizations to receive its annual Business Pride Awards, commemorating the chamber’s 10th anniversary and celebrating regional LGBT+ history. The awards honor organizations demonstrating extraordinary leadership in the equality movement. GEHA was recognized as the Corporate Partner of the Year.

“We are humbled that GEHA was selected for these prestigious Kansas City recognitions,” said Art Nizza, GEHA President and CEO. “Our member-driven, caring approach to providing health and dental plans to more than 2 million federal employees and their families is at the core of our mission. These awards are a true testament to the impact being made in our local community and how closely that work aligns with our core commitment to our members and their health and well-being journey.”

GEHA continues to evolve its corporate social responsibility (CSR) strategy to bring health care and education to historically underserved communities through addressing racial disparities in health care, increasing access to care for communities of color and providing resources to nonprofit partners with like-minded priorities. Supporting the unique needs of military veterans and their families is also a strategic priority, including mental health investments for veterans and community-based efforts for families.

GEHA (Government Employees Health Association, Inc., pronounced G.E.H.A.), founded in 1937, is a nonprofit member association and the largest dental and second largest medical benefits provider of federal employees, exclusively serving 2 million current employees and retirees, military retirees and their families.
