Earning rewards
Looking for 2025 Health Rewards information?
The Health Rewards program gives two adult members per household (age 18+) the opportunity to earn Health Rewards for participating in activities that promote healthy behavior. After completing your first activity, you will automatically receive a Heath Rewards debit card in the mail. Rewards are credited to your account once you complete a rewardable activity in the GEHA Well-being portal or once GEHA processes a claim for a rewardable activity.

HDHP + HRA, Standard and High members can spend available rewards on all 213(d) qualified expenses — such as eyeglasses or contacts, orthodontics, doctor visits and dental care — using your Health Rewards card.
HDHP + HSA members can use their rewards on qualified dental and vision care expenses until they meet their deductible. Then, all eligible medical and pharmacy expenses qualify, too.
Use your rewards card to pay at health care providers for eligible services as well as at stores and pharmacies with an industry standard (IIAS) checkout system that automatically verifies if an item is a qualified medical expense. For the latest list of IIAS approved merchants, visit sig-is.org. You can also download our list of 213(d) qualified medical expenses to better understand the many ways you can use your rewards.
FAQs
Q: Who is eligible to earn rewards?A: Subscriber plus one dependent age 18+ can earn rewards. The order for determining which dependent is eligible is as follows: 1) spouse of subscriber, 2) oldest child of subscriber between ages 18-25, 3) dependent whose name appears first in alphabetical order. GEHA Medicare Advantage enrollees are not eligible to earn GEHA Health Rewards.
Q: Who do I contact with questions?
A: Contact UMR for Health Rewards program or Well-being portal related questions at 800.860.6933. Contact HealthEquity for questions related to your Health Rewards debit card or account balance at 844.768.5644.
Q: What is a Health Rewards card?
A: Your Health Rewards card lets you pay for qualified expenses using funds from your Health Rewards account. HealthEquity will mail your rewards card about two weeks after GEHA receives notification that you've completed your first rewardable activity. As you continue completing rewardable activities, funds will be loaded onto your rewards card.
Q: How long will it take for rewards to show up in my Health Rewards account?
A: Please allow up to 3 weeks after you see your reward credited in the GEHA Well-being portal for it to be deposited in your account at HealthEquity and available to use.
Q: Where can I use my Health Rewards card?
A: Use your card for qualified expenses at the doctor, pharmacy, dentist, optician, orthodontist and most general merchandise stores. HDHP members who are also enrolled in an HSA may only use their card for qualified dental and vision expenses until the yearly plan deductible has been satisfied. Transactions are usually verified automatically, but you may need to submit a receipt to verify that the transaction was for an eligible expense or service.
Q: What would cause a termination to my Health Rewards account?
A: This can happen in four ways:
1. Change in health plan from Standard, High or HDHP (Health Rewards) to Elevate or Elevate Plus (Wellness Pays) or vice versa.
2. Change in enrollment status from subscriber to dependent or vice versa.
3. Termination of your underlying medical coverage.
4. Enrolling in a GEHA Medicare Advantage Plan. GEHA Medicare Advantage enrollees aren't eligible to earn GEHA Health Rewards.
Q: Can I spend my rewards balance after termination of my Health Rewards account?
A: Yes, you can continue to access your Health Rewards account for six months following the termination. Your available balance can be applied to reimbursements for qualified expenses that occurred during your effective medical plan coverage (first day of plan eligibility through the day before plan termination). Please note: Health Rewards debit cards will become inactive and can no longer be used upon the termination date.
